Since the original run of Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch (Holmes) and Martin Freeman (Watson) have both become incredibly busy. That has made it difficult for them to pin down exactly when they’ll return to filming their beloved BBC series, which has found success in the USA on both PBS and Netflix.

Speaking recently with The Telegraph, Freeman said that it “looks pretty likely” that they’ll be shooting a Christmas special for 2015. They’ll also likely be sticking to the key elements of Arthur Conan Doyle’s source material and kill of Watson’s wife Mary, with Freeman saying “While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did. So [Watson] gets married, and then Mary dies—so at some point presumably she’ll die.”

After the cliffhanger finish to last season, fans are thirsting for more of this vastly underrated show. Here’s hoping that Freeman is wrong, and we don’t have to wait another 17 months to get some new material.
