Rikers Island Inmates Reportedly Guarantee Riot Following Announcement of New Curfew

An earlier bed time and no late-night television has them incensed.

A new is being imposed at Rikers Island, an inmates are not at all pleased. 

According to the New York Post reports that the Department of Correction is implementing a 9 p.m. curfew to end after hours violence at the facility. Previously, inmates had been allowed to stay up until 11 p.m., giving them the opportunity to enjoy late-night television. However, with less staff available during later hours, conflicts were common, a source told the Post

Most of the violence is occurring around the time that inmates have to go to their cells at night and are locked in, usually around 10:30 to 11 p.m. There will be more of an officer presence at 9 p.m.

Prisoners are reportedly livid. "They only watch the Spanish novellas for the hot chicks, the source explained to the Post. "They can’t watch porn, so this is the closest thing to it." The Post adds that reports of this left inmates prepared to riot, because, as their source says, "they have nothing else."

Correction officers at Rikers Island feel retaliatory violence is imminent, but the Department of Corrections affirms their position, insisting that safety is their first priority.
