You know it's a bad weekend at the box office when a movie that has been out for nearly a month jumps back into the No. 1 spot like Guardians of the Galaxy did this week.

The biggest loser of all was Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The sequel to the Frank Miller comic adaptation took almost 10 years to arrive, which was apparently just long enough to kill anyone's interest in seeing it. Admittedly, this type of movie did seem a lot cooler back then, before we'd started getting beaten over the head with comic book movies.

The movie pulled in a sad $6.48 million this weekend and cost a reported $70 million to make, which means it could be this year's Lone Ranger or R.I.P.D. (although it's getting some competition from the also-flopping Expendables 3).

Guardians of the Galaxy ended up back at No. 1 after it brought in $17.6  million and surpassed $251 million in total domestic earnings. It's now officially the top-grossing movie of the summer.

No. 2 went  to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with $16.8 million, No. 3 was the teen coma drama If I Stay ($16.3 million) starring Chloe Grace Moretz, and No. 4 was the comedy Let's Be Cops with $11 million.
