The absolutely perfect poster for Jurassic Park is among the most memorable movie posters of all time.
But a bunch of newly-released posters that didn't make the cut show that to achieve perfection, you have to make some garbage, almost garbage, pretty damn good, and great work, then throw it all out, to get there.
The unused poster designs were released as part of the promotion for a new book highlighting the work of poster artist John Alvin, who also made the iconic posters for E.T., Blade Runner, The Lion King and Gremlins.
It's a cool look into the design process, and also the taglines that could have been used. "Xing" might not have worked so great.
