Twenty years after Nas dropped the greatest debut in the history of hip hop comes a new documentary about the making of a masterpiece.
Time Is Illmatic recounts the making of Nas' instant classic "Illmatic" at age 19, and the rapper's upbringing in the Queensbridge projects.
"We had a beautiful home inside ... but outside were like shots going off every night," says Nas in a new trailer for the movie. "I gave you what the streets felt like, sounded like, tasted like."
A teaser trailer came out a few months back, but this new one reveals a lot more footage of Nas a young man, as well as an interview with his jazz musician father Olu Dara.
It's directed by One9 and also features interviews with Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys and other music industry figures.
The film is set for an Oct. 1 release, followed by Nas' Time Is Illmatic tour.
