Charlie Hunnam Did Not Take Quitting “Fifty Shades of Grey” Well

Charlie Hunnam says he had a "nervous breakdown" after quitting "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Apparently, the pressure of Fifty Shades of Grey was a bit much for Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam.

In an interview with Moviefone, Hunnam said that just prior to shooting Fifty Shades “I just had like ... frankly, something of a nervous breakdown,” which led to him dropping out of the film entirely. Fear of failure, it seems, was the cause:

“To fail on such a grand scale - because 'Fifty's going to be massive, it's going to be huge. I really didn't want to fail on such a grand scale and I just couldn't transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours. I bit off more than I could chew and it was painful. I loved the character and I wanted to do it.”

While the world will never truly know what would have happened if he had just done the movie anyway, it seems like a brooding, Jax-esque version of Christian Grey might have made the movie even more interesting.
