There's going to be a new team behind the news desk when Saturday Night Live returns for a 40th season beginning Sept. 27.

Michael Che, best known as a correspondent on The Daily Show, will replace Cecily Strong as a co-anchor on Weekend Update.

Producer Lorne Michaels told the news to The New York Times, saying he'd tried out "a number of different" anchor combinations over the past few weeks before choosing Che, who formed a strong relationship with co-anchor Colin Jost when they were both writing for SNL last season.

We're assuming that this means Che is done at The Daily Show, because SNL has a legendarily grueling writing schedule. Che has only been working on the Comedy Central show since April, but in case you didn't know he has been killing it over there.

Che will be the first black cast member to anchor the show's most prominent segment. SNL came under fire for its lack of diversity last season, when it did not have a single black woman in the cast. The show eventually hired Sasheer Zamata last season.

You only need to watch a few minutes of Che's Daily Show work to see that he's perfect for this. But really, it would have been impossible to end up with co-anchors with less chemistry than Strong and Jost last season.
