Denzel Washington: Oscar-winning actor. Jay-Z impersonator. Box office money in the bank.

Washington's new Antoine Fuqua-directed action thriller The Equalizer straight equalized its competition at theaters this weekend, pulling in $35 million domestically to beat out No. 2 Maze Runner ($17.5 million) and No. 3 The Boxtrolls ($17.2 million).

At 59, the dude is still one of the most reliable draws in Hollywood, and he's never even been in a Marvel movie (although we would like to see that). The Equalizer cost a reported $55 million to make, so it's well on its way to being a solid hit.

The rest of the top 10 at the box office were mostly movies entering their second or third weeks in release, including No. 4 This Is Where I Leave You ($7 million), No. 5 Dolphin Tale ($4.8 million), No. 6 No Good Deed ($4.6 million) and No. 7 A Walk Among the Tombstones ($4.2 million).
