HBO's Game of Thrones is apparently pretty popular. When a Spanish casting agency put a call for 600 extras to appear in a season five battle scene, it had a few applications from fans. 86,000, to be exact. The website traffic was so heavy it shut down the agency's servers.
Back in July some greedy Spaniards even found a way to profit off the Game of Thrones hype in Spain. Two men in Ibiza were arrested for running a scam in which fans were told to call into a premium phone service if they were interested in being extras. The scam earned up to $125,000 a week.
