Despite having the same haircut as Kim Jong Un, the World War II film Fury proved that Brad Pitt can still open a movie.
The bloody, R-rated Fury brought in $23.5 million in its debut weekend to knock the bloody, R-rated Gone Girl out of the No. 1 spot after its two weeks there. You know summer is long over when an R-rated film is knocking another R-rated film out of first place, and that's a good thing.
The movie, about a tank division in the final days of the allies' push into Nazi-controlled Europe, also stars Shia Labeouf, Shia Labeouf's mustache, Michael Pena and Jon Bernthal (Shane from The Walking Dead), and cost a reported $68 million to make. That puts it on track to be a solid hit.
Gone Girl made $17.8 million to bring its total gross so far to $107 million.
As for other movies opening this week, the animated The Book of Life was No. 3 with a $17 million debut, and Nicholas Sparks' latest movie your girl will eventually get you to watch on HBO, The Best of Me, debuted at No. 5 with $10.2 million.
