Life is not two-dimensional. Nor are great ideas. This is something the crew that started MakerBot was all too aware of, and all too eager to do something about. Tired of only being able to see their ideas sketched out on paper or on screen, they devised a way to bring those ideas to the next level, with a three-dimensional model maker.

But why not just buy a 3-D printer, dawg? Easier said than done, son. Those are expensive! As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention, and while MakerBot’s founders were desperate to take their dreams one dimension further, they didn’t have the scratch to buy the tools to do so.

So they created them instead. And MakerBot was born.

As co-founder Bre Pettis puts it, MakerBot is for forward-thinkers. For these people, the future isn’t some far-off, abstract place. It’s already here. And if you’re stuck in the status quo, living in the past, your ability to create will be severely compromised. For these prescient innovators, every problem has a solution. It just might not have been invented yet.

To hear more on the origins of MakerBot, as well as Bre Pettis’s unique approach to his work, check out the Weekday Warrior video above. And be sure to check back soon for part two in the series, when Bre discusses how his life away from work keeps him fresh and inspired.
