MakerBot's Bre Pettis Hears the Call of the Wild

MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis gets back to basics, and back to nature.

1.

In our previous Weekday Warrior segment, we met Bre Pettis, a man whose ingenuity is surpassed only by his curiosity. As the co-creator of MakerBot, a revolutionary 3-D modeling system, Pettis discussed the particulars of his and his company’s mantra, which can be summed up as: No day but tomorrow. It’s not about the past, it ain’t about now; it’s always about the future. As the old saying goes: he who forgets the past will be doomed to repeat it, and for Pettis, repeating what’s already been done is likely the worst fate he can imagine.

You might picture a guy as driven as Bre Pettis is to be someone who never leaves the office; a guy who works nights and weekends at the expense of any down time or personal life. But nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, come Friday evening, homeboy is out. Bye bye office, bye bye MakerBot, bye bye NYC.

So how does this captain of industry recharge when he’s not at the office? We’ll give you one hint: it involves race cars and DeLoreans. And if that’s not enough to pique your interest, we don’t know what would be.

To find out more about Bre Pettis’s weekend rituals, be sure to check out part two of our video series above.
