Last night at PaleyFest, fans were treated to one of the largest—if not the largest—reunions of the cast from The Wire that has taken place since the show ended in 2008. And it did not disappoint.

In addition to a few good stories about Herc and Carver almost quitting because of how boring their surveillance scenes were, Wendell Pierce (who played Bunk) and the real Bunk becoming real-life friends, and the fact that Kima was supposed to die at the end of Season 1, Michael K. Williams offered this when asked about the controversial decision to leave the projects and head to the docks for Season 2:

“The whole first season I came on as a recurring character and the character started to grow. So I fell in love with the cast, I fell in love with the writing, I fell in love with the city, so what do you do? You move to Baltimore. So I was ready for second season, like OK, where’s this storyline going? And I got introduced to the mind of David Simon—he took it to the docks. [laughter] I got real bitter. [laughter] I was an angry black man. And I approached David, in my ignorance, you know—how come when we made the show hot, and you want to give it to the white people?”

Honestly, it sounds pretty terrifying to have Omar mad at you. But clearly David Simon didn’t care, and the world was better for it.

The above video may be super long, clocking in at a solid 1:15, but if you’re a fan of The Wire it is really a must-watch.
