Tom Hardy May Be Playing the Villain in “X-Men: Apocalypse”

A veteran movie villain is being targeted to play the title role in "X-Men: Apocalypse."

It could be time for Tom Hardy to dust off his “weird villain voice” again.

After a memorable turn as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, Hardy is now rumored to be director Bryan Singer’s main target for the lead villain role in X-Men: Apocalypse. Those who saw X-Men: Days of Future Past will recall that at the end, there was a brief clip of a rather sinister-looking individual building the Great Pyramids of Egypt, with four shadowy figures on horseback in the background.

That would be Apocalypse, whose combination of powers makes him borderline invincible. He also happens to lead a merry band of dudes named the Four Horseman, who have fun-timey names like Pestilence, Famine, War, and Death. Sounds like fun for Professor X, et al.

The movie comes out in May of 2016, so there’s still plenty of time for more names to get tossed around for parts in the movie. If the accomplished Hardy is in, though, that’s a good start.
