Police in New York City say a man was killed after being pushed in front of a train in the Bronx yesterday morning.

According to the New York Daily News, 61-year-old Wai Kuen Kwok was waiting for the D train at the 167th Street platform just before 9 a.m. when the assailant pushed him at random. The Bronx couple was reportedly en route to Chinatown to have breakfast and go shopping for groceries. The Daily News adds that the train's operator saw Kwok fall in front of the train, but was unable to stop:

The train’s motorman saw Kwok tumble off the platform as he pulled into the 167th St. station, but he couldn’t stop in time, a transit source said.

He said the guy just flew off the platform in front of his train as he was entering the station. The guy was still in the air when he hit him.

Three cars rolled over Kwok before the train stopped, according to the source.

The victim's wife told police that the suspect did not interact with her husband prior to the fatal push.

The Daily News reports that he fled the station immediately, boarding a Bx35 bus. Video footage (above) showing a person of interest was released by police, and an investigation into Kwok's death is ongoing.

UPDATE: Police have identified a person of interest in the subway killing, according to the New York Times. The man is Kevin Darden, 34, who police believe is the man surveillance video caught walking calmly from the 167th Street subway station. The NYPD is insistent that Darden is just a person of interest as of now—not a suspect.
