We live in an era where, sadly, you simply can’t trust the latest viral video. People like Jimmy Kimmel have ruined it for everybody (especially when it comes to twerking), producing fake videos at a prolific rate and trying to become the next Internet sensation. Thus, it’s with a significant lens of suspicion that you should view this latest twerking fail that recently surfaced on YouTube, in which a young woman manages to soil herself mid-twerk.

A video with such great viral potential must be scrutinized carefully before a final verdict can be reached. While it is indisputably funny whether or not it’s fake, judging the video's authenticity is nevertheless a valuable exercise in determining its originality and ultimate staying power.

Upon further review, here are several key pieces of evidence that suggest we are dealing with a fake:

  • The usage of semi-transparent white tights is suspicious. That would be a weird thing to have just laying around the house.

  • At the 0:22 mark, a brown spot appears on the dancer’s posterior without any accompanying noise. Furthermore, it rests slightly above the normal area where one would reasonably expect such a stain to originate:

  • The stain steadily grows in size until the 0:25 mark, again with no accompanying noises:

  • When the “-art” in “shart” finally does arrive, the audio is crystal-clear. For a homemade video being shot on a webcam or iPhone from some distance away, this borderline professional-quality sound simply doesn’t fit.

  • It takes the dancing woman until the 0:28 mark to realize what has happened. However, we all know that when you’ve had this sort of accident, you know right away. There’s no three second twerk followed by a hand check:

In the end, while funny, the sad truth is that this video is almost certainly a well-produced fake. Nice try, Internet. Maybe next time.
