Exodus: Gods and Kings is leading the weekend box office, knocking The Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part 1 out of the top spot. The Christian Bale/Ridley Scott epic has been getting mixed reviews (not to mention the public outcry at the casting of white actors in non-white roles), but that didn't seem to slow it down in its debut weekend. It looks like it'll hit $25 million tomorrow, but to put things in perspective, this weekend last year, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opened to a whopping $73.6 million.

The Exodus budget was an estimated $140 million, so it's still got a long way to go. The final Hobbit installment, The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters next weekend, so it's unlikely Exodus will retain the top spot for a second week. Chris Rock's Top Five came in third last night, but is already a hit; the movie cost $2.5 million to make and will earn around $7 million by Sunday.
