A Staten Island grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer whose chokehold killed Eric Garner this past July has sparked a ton of outrage on Twitter as people marvel at how an abundance of footage and the medical examiner ruling the death a homicide somehow doesn’t warrant a criminal charge. While the NYPD is always the subject of ample scrutiny, this decision takes that public pressure to a whole other level.
So, knowing that, the NYPD would probably acknowledge that trying to get this hashtag trending just minutes after the decision was announced was a really, really bad idea:
