Authorities arrested the Rikers Island guard who let a man essentially bake to death inside of his cell because she left her post.

According to the Associated Press, Carol Lacker lied about checking on 56-year-old Jerome Murdough and other inmates every 30 minutes on the evening Murdough died back in February. A city official told the Associated Press that Murdough, a homeless ex-Marine who suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, died after temperatures in his cell reached 101-degrees.

Rather than own up to her negligence, Lacker reportedly falsified documents saying that she had performed her nightly rounds. She's been charged with several counts of official misconduct, falsifying business records, and filing a false instrument. If convicted, she faces a maximum of four years in prison.
