There was only one new film that debuted in theaters over the long holiday weekend, but even that couldn't top the hairy-footed dominance that is the final installment in The Hobbit franchise.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies topped the box office for a third straight weekend, bringing in $21.9 million to bring its North American total to more than $220 million, according to numbers released by the studios Sunday morning.
That lone new release, Woman in Black 2: The Angel of Death, made $15.1 million, even without star Daniel Radcliffe returning for the sequel, putting it at No. 4 behind Unbroken ($18.4 million) and Into the Woods ($19.1 million). That's impressive for a relatively low-budget horror film that lost most of its star-power.
Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game made another $8.1 million in its sixth week of release. That's huge, since the movie is playing on only around 700 screens.
