Joaquin Phoenix once called the awards season rat race "total, utter bullshit" and, generally, he seems very uncomfortable in interviews. But Phoenix might' ve found his own unique way to ease into an interview comfort zone: bring up his celebrity crushes. And on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Phoenix revealed that his current crush is Amy Poehler

"She is hosting the [Golden] Globes," Phoenix, who is nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy for the kinda-comedy Inherent Vice, nervously told Kimmel. "She is having a party and I am going to go. I’m a little nervous about seeing her. I don’t really know what to say."

But Kimmel had no advice. In fact, he crushed Phoenix's crush right away, by telling Phoenix that Poehler has been dating Nick Kroll for "about a year." And Phoenix froze.

1.

Phoenix asked Kimmel if they have "a solid relationship" but instead of trying to break the couple up, he decided that he'd take his mom. “She has a good time,” he said of his mom, who's attended a few award shows when her son was nominated. “She laughs at all of the jokes. And she seems to really enjoy herself.”

Last year, when Phoenix was nominated for Her, he took his mom to a post-Globes party thrown by P. Diddy. “All the waitresses are wearing lingerie. And it’s a very overtly sexual kind of party.” But his mom wasn't phased. “The thing is my mom can boogie,” he said. “She doesn’t fuck around... the D.J. was spinning and no one was dancing, and she got out there... I walked out for a minute and came back in and she was dancing with Usher.”

We gotta say, we like this free-wheelin' Phoenix. Maybe Poehler could milk this magic just one more night and invite Phoenix on stage at tomorrow night's Globes ceremony. But that sort of stunt might make Phoenix "retire" all over again.
