MySpace Is Alive and Well ... On Thursdays

MySpace is actually doing OK, partly due to the Throwback Thursday effect.

None

Remember MySpace, that site people used to creep on bathing suit photos before Facebook, and also to post the answers to vital survey questions such as "Do you hate anyone right now?" and "What was the middle name of the first person you slept with?"

Well, it ain't dead yet, and it's actually growing. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the social networking dinosaur saw 50.6 million unique visitors in November, which is a 575 percent increase from a year earlier. Videos were viewed on the site 300 million times that month -  good enough for 16th on comScore’s Video Metrix ranking.

How is this happening? Well, the site gets a huge traffic bump on Throwback Thursdays, when people go searching for old pictures to post (yes, that photo of you in the Austin Powers Halloween costume is still there).

They also have "managed to attract a vibrant audience of 17 to 25-year-olds, particularly music and entertainment fans" according to the Journal, which does not sound believable in any way, but hey, AOL still had more than two million paying subscribers as of last summer, so stranger things have happened.
