The American adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher, starring Rooney Mara, became a five time Oscar nominee after its 2011 release. Mara was even nominated for Best Actress. And yet, a sequel never materialized. Fincher late last year said that a script for The Girl Who Played with Fire had “huge potential” and that it strayed from the book series raising fans hopes. But Mara just gave us a reality check.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Mara told E! Online. “I’m sad never to do it again, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards.”

ICYMI there’s a fourth book in the series due out in August of this year, which is expected to perform well. Perhaps that will provide a much needed push for a sequel. No need to waste anymore time, though.
