"Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Imitation Game" Win Screenplay Awards; "True Detective" and "Louie" Also (Finally) Honored

The Grand Budapest Hotel quietly co-leads the Oscar nomination tally with Birdman. Both are perched atop the gold heap with nine noms apiece. We say "quietly" because Birdman just wrapped up a victorious February by winning the top prizes from most of the filmmaking guilds. However, Wes Anderson's story-within-a-story-within-WWII-within-a-creampuff might actually win the most awards next Sunday. And Anderson himself might finally be victorious in the Original Screenplay category. Anderson won the Original Screenplay award Saturday night from his fellow screenwriters in the Writer's Guild of America.

The WGA also awarded Graham Moore with Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on The Imitation Game, the Alan Turing-biography-within-a-WII-story-within-a-homosexual-persecution-narrative.

Proving that the writers not only liked multiple layers in 2014 film narratives, they also gave out the last TV trophies for 2014, and awarded True Detective and Louie with the Best Series laurels that the Emmys and Golden Globes failed to do.
