Minneapolis police arrested a suspect Saturday afternoon for the shooting of an officer that took place Saturday morning. The officer, Jordan Davis, was responding to a 5 a.m. burglary call, when a car drove by and fired. Davis' partner drove him to the hospital, where he's (thankfully) in "satisfactory but stable condition." Davis was shot in the shoulder while standing next to his police squad vehicle.
The MPD believe that this was a targeted shooting, and than whoever responded would've been shot. Andrew Neal, 43, was arrested for suspicion of shooting the officer, in addition to suspicion of burglary, violation of probation, and domestic assault. The woman who placed the call about a burglary was a known friend of Neal's. Neal's home was surrounded by a SWAT team before his afternoon apprehension.
"There is little doubt that an officer was the intended target of this shooting and that this officer just happened to be the one who was there," Chief Janee Harteau said in a statement. "This is a reminder to all that every one of our officers face such danger simply because they choose to wear a uniform. We ask for continued prayers for this officer, his family and every officer who is out protecting and serving their communities."
