Authorities in Pittsburgh say a former elementary school teacher has been accused of stalking a former student, sending the 11-year-old thousands of texts, and suggesting that the two of them flee together.

According to WPXI, Geraldine Alcorn, who taught at Beechwood Elementary School, was "obsessed" with the 11-year-old girl. The student's mother says the 28-year-old exchanged 2,400 texts with her daughter over a two-week period:

According to police, the texts expressed deep love between Alcorn and the student. The pair talked about Alcorn adopting the 11-year-old, texting that they would be “on the run” for a while.

When officials with Pittsburgh Public Schools learned of the relationship, Alcorn was suspended, and eventually resigned earlier this month. However, WPXI says she still attempted to contact the girl despite being told not to by police:

Alcorn returned to the school on Friday, March 13, to collect her personal belongings, and on the following Monday, the girl found "gifts and several letters, some encrypted, in her locker and desk," according to the criminal complaint. "The letters, written by Alcorn, instructed the 11-year-old female to contact her.

Alcorn faces charges of corruption of minors, child luring, and attempting to interfere with the custody of a child. She was arraigned last Wednesday, and is currently free on $100,000 bond.
