Spike Lee Is Reportedly Making a Movie Called 'Chiraq' for Amazon

He's recruiting Kanye West, Common, and more.

Spike Lee is reportedly teaming up with some of Chicago's finest for a movie called Chiraq. His next movie has been picked up by Amazon, with the iconic director recruiting Chicago natives Kanye West, Common, and Jeremy Piven to join the cast, according to The Wrap. Lee's longtime collaborator Samuel L. Jackson is also expected to make a cameo.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but given Chiraq's title, we can expect the film to be about the city's problem with gun violence. The concept of Common's last album, Nobody's Smiling, was inspired by the violence plaguing the city and enlisted a grip of young Chicago rappers. Kanye also covered the topic extensively on Watch the Throne's "Murder to Excellence."

We'll keep you updated when more information on Chiraq becomes available.
