In case you've failed to notice, 2015 is most certainly the year of Amy Schumer. In just the past two months, Schumer has given us the long overdue trial of Bill Cosby, a quick makeout with Tina Fey at the Peabody Awards, and her untouchable magnum opus "12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer." After a brief hiatus, Comedy Central's Inside Amy Schumer triumphantly returned on Tuesday — providing Schumer's usual medley of refreshing subversion.
"Foam," a silent film-nodding standout (watch above) from Tuesday's episode, nicely captures the general awkwardness of developing a circumstance-based relationship with a barista at your most-frequented coffee shop. Interpreting the barista's increasingly loaded latte art, Schumer returns each day to the shop with a heightened sense of connection — though no words are exchanged.
Thankfully, Schumer uses the skit to explore both the complexity of latte art (particularly this specific barista's latte art penis) and the parallel complexity of developing any sort of relationship with anyone other than yourself. Life is hard, but it's even harder when you communicate only in a series of misinterpretations. Schumer's proper mainstream arrival — the Judd Apatow-directed Trainwreck — steps into your local theater to (very likely) reinvent the game on July 17.
