Channing Tatum Might Not Star in 'Gambit' Movie After All

Channing Tatum may exit the 'Gambit' movie.

The Wrap reports that Channing Tatum may not be playing the devious X-Men character Gambit in an upcoming 20th Century Fox movie after all. Gambit, which was billed as an origin story about the tricks-turning comic book character originally played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is in "jeopardy of falling apart," according to the Wrap's sources.

It's unclear as to why the movie, which is in pre-production, is hitting a bump in the road. Tatum was just at San Diego Comic-Con last month promoting and building buzz around the movie, which the Wrap describes as a long-time "passion project" for the 35-year-old actor.

From the Wrap:

None

Tatum's representatives admitted they are still in talks with the studio, but that "something is up." It's unclear if Tatum and his buddy Reid Carolin will stay on as producers, or if he will simply exit the movie altogether. Grantland recently reported that Carolin and Tatum plan to "make their directorial debut soon"—but it's definitely not going to be on this movie, so maybe there's another project on their horizons that's taking precedent.

Whatever is going on—creative differences, scheduling conflicts, financial hurdles, etc.—spells trouble for the film, which was supposed to premiere a little over a year from now, on October 7, 2016.
