According to ancient scripture truck stop belt buckles, there are two things you should never "mess with": Texas and alligators. Learning nothing from these universal truths, a man in Orange, Texas ignored all warnings and directly "messed with" a Texan alligator. The 28-year-old man reportedly showed up at Burkhart's Marina early Friday morning to take an impromptu swim with a friend, despite posted warnings reading "No Swimming. Alligators."

"I asked him [to] please not go swimming," a restaurant employee tells KFDM, "[and] there's a bigger alligator out here, just please stay out of the water." The man reportedly replied to such requests with the sentiment "fuck that alligator," then promptly entered the troubled waters. Almost immediately, the man was attacked by said alligator. "The next thing I know, I don’t even know how long it was, I saw his body floating face down," says the Burkhart's employee. "Then he’s up there for a couple seconds and then he gets dragged back down and pulled off."

As noted by Gawker, the harrowing incident marks the first alligator-related death in Texas in recorded history.
