NBC Could Bring Back 'Xena'

NBC is reportedly looking for a writer to bring back the '90s show, 'Xena: Warrior Princess.'

Xena: Warrior Princess may be coming back to TV. Both the Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly reported Monday that NBC producers are looking for a writer to spearhead the reboot; the project is in an "extremely early" age, but could come as early as 2016, according to THR. But Lucy Lawless may be out of the picture, even though she enthusiastically backed the idea at Comic-Con a few weeks ago. "I've been pitching that, actually," she said on a panel. "I'm just like, 'Why don't we just do that?'"

Yesterday, the actress tweeted that the reboot talk is "just a rumor." "I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage," she wrote.

Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage.

It'll be a little awkward if the reboot is on and the network is just thinking of going in another direction—sources told THR that the reboot would be a "modernized" version, and the new Xena would be a mix of Lawless' original character and Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games. Entertainment Weekly also pointed out that this would not be "the first time NBC has kept a cast of rebooted TV show in the dark."
