With The Martian now just weeks away, certainly hype-assisted by recent news of his attachment to a forthcoming El Chapo-esque drug lord drama, it's a pretty great time to be Ridley Scott. Lackluster sequels aside, it's kind of been a great time to be Ridley Scott since at least 1979, when the accomplished auteur introduced the world to Sigourney Weaver in the obvious classic Alien.
Prometheus, Scott's 2012 film starring Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba, was initially billed as a blockbuster "sharing strands of Alien's DNA," though those strands are now not expected to reveal themselves for at least another six years. “It won’t be in the next one,” Scott told FilmFutter during a recent interview. “It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise.”
According to the Guardian's estimates, Scott will be "at least" 83 years old by the time the Alien-nodding Prometheus sequel is released, an estimate taking into account only the most rigorous of writing and shooting schedules. As previously reported, the next entry in the Prometheus saga is expected to be released in 2017, meaning additional sequels could reasonably be expected by 2019 and 2021, respectively.
All of this is cool, Ridley, but please don't forget about that aforementioned El Chapo movie.
