You know it was a bad weekend at the box office when Steve Jobs, the critically acclaimed biopic starring Michael Fassbender, barely beats the debut of Ashton Kutcher's horribly reviewed Jobs.
That's what happened, though. Steve Jobs opened to an extremely disappointing $7.3 million this weekend to land in fourth place behind three movies that have already been out for a while (for comparison, Jobs made $6.7 million in its opening weekend in 2013).
The top spot this week went to The Martian, which added $15.9 million to its $166 million total so far, followed by Goosebumps ($15.5 million) and Bridge of Spies ($11.4 million), according to Sunday studio estimates.
Jobs wasn't the only movie to open as a flop this week. Vin Diesel's The Last Witch Hunter, which reportedly cost $70 million to make, only brought in $10.8 million for fourth place.
The latest Paranormal Activity movie, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, only brought in $8.2 million, the worst opening in the history of the franchise, although it only cost $10 million to make.
Wayyy bigger flops this weekend included Bill Murray's Rock the Kasbah ($1.5 million) and Jem and the Holograms, which The Associated Press is calling "one of the worst debuts of all time for a major studio movie" with only $1.3 million total.
Steve Jobs had one of the highest per-screen averages of the year when it opened in New York and Los Angeles last week, but people outside of the larger cities just weren't feeling it.
