Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed police choking Eric Garner to death, says jail guards at Rikers Island tried to feed him meatloaf laced with rat poison. Fortunately, the 24-year-old didn’t end up eating any of the poisoned entrée, but claims he suffered “severe personal injuries” from the whole ordeal, the New YorkDaily News reports.

As a result, he’s filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging that correction officers, with cooperation from the NYPD, poisoned the meatloaf in retaliation for his video of Garner’s controversial death. The suit also mentions a similar story that was broke by the Daily News in April, alleging that 19 inmates got sick after eating the meatloaf, as well.

Orta, who has at least eight convictions and an arrest record for drugs and guns, also believes that NYPD started targeting him after the video was released. The NYPD, however, claims that Garner was arrested because he committed crimes, not because he was targeted.
