Syracuse, New York police placed Syracuse University on a precautionary lockdown for several hours tonight, telling students to "shelter in place" as they searched for two suspects in a fatal shooting that happened about a mile off campus.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., the Orange Alert was lifted on the campus, although officers were still searching for the suspects who were believed to have fled into a cemetery.

One person was killed and another was wounded in the shooting, police said.

Cnycentral.com reports that a 911 call indicated that the suspects may have fired shots at police during the search.
