One act of kindness was enough to spark the generosity of hundreds of strangers on the internet, subsequently changing one family’s life. James Moss, a homeless single father, and his 1-year-old son Zhi, have just received over $30K raised in a GoFundMe made following Moss’s appearance in a random act of kindness video.

The video, which reportedly took place a month ago, according to the GoFundMe page, showed motivational speaker Leon Logothetis on his #GoBeKind tour in which he traveled doing random acts of kindness. It was in Denver that he met Moss and heard his story. Moss had just moved to Colorado a few days earlier, leaving New York for Zhi. 'Everything I do is for him', Moss said. He said he wanted Zhi to grow up in a “peaceful place” where he could experience things he hadn’t. But the job and housing Moss had been offered by a friend fell through and Moss and Zhi found themselves in a homeless shelter. Moved by Moss’s positive outlook: 'You have to be brought down to your humblest point so you can appreciate other things that are waiting for you,’ Logothetis gave Moss $1,000 and paid for him and Zhi to stay in a hotel for a week. Less than a week later the video has gone viral and a GoFundMe has been set up by Kayla Heskett, of Goodland, Kan.

Heskett found out the Moss family was still living in a homeless shelter and decided to make the fundraiser. With a goal of raising enough money so that Moss could buy a car to commute to his barbershop job, so that Zhi wouldn’t be exposed to the harsh winter, Heskett set out to raise $20K. Thanks to others, over $35K has been raised and Moss and Zhi are no longer living in a shelter. He said he is saving to buy a car and a camper.

Moss made a video thanking everyone for their donations and thanking everyone who helped him ever since he got to Denver. Moss talked to Fox 31 and compared supporters to ‘angels in the sky.'
