If you thought the best thing Johnny Depp ever did was Pirates of the Caribbean, you thought wrong. While his Black Mass co-star Benedict Cumberbatch went rogue on a giant teddy bear on yesterday's The Graham Norton Show, Depp showed his softer side by opening up about the hospital and school visits he makes as Captain Jack Sparrow.

"That must be an amazing gift to be able to give those people," said host Graham Norton. Depp agreed, saying the visits became even more important after his own daughter, Lily-Rose, was hospitalized at age 7 for kidney failure.

I've spent time in Great Ormond Street [Hospital] where I was the parent when my daughter was ill. I've known darkness in my life, but that was the darkest period ever. It was when I was doing Sweeney [Todd]. I'd always done these visits, but after that the visits became more and more important because the kids, bless them, they're so strong and they're so courageous, but the parents are the ones who are slowly dying. To be able to bring a smile or a giggle to these people, it means everything in the world to me."

We're not crying—you're crying. Depp might not be the show-stopping heartthrob he was in the '80s and '90s, but he's after a new title these days: world's greatest dad.
