Benedict Cumberbatch will follow-up his role as a Marvel hero in next year's Doctor Strange by playing a war hero in a period drama. Cumberbatch, who was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Alan Turing in The Imitation Game in which a mathematician helped crack the Nazi code leading to Germany’s defeat in World War II, will be portraying another Hitler adversary in The War Magician.

Variety reports Cumberbatch will star as real-life British magician Jasper Maskelyne who teamed up with the Allied forces to bring down the Nazis using his illusions to disappear "tanks" and "buildings" while creating illusions of an army troop. To pull off the illusions Maskelyne had "The Magic Gang" made up of 12 magicians. The magician even got blacklisted by Hitler.

Watch Cumberbatch use his magical powers in Doctor Strange Nov. 4, 2016.
