Today in unfortunate rat news, a nice French woman and her father allegedly sat down to brunch at the Plaza Hotel in New York City only to discover that their sandwich contained the remains of a dead baby rat. The holidays, am I right everyone?

16-year-old Eloise Faux (named for the children's book character who lived at the Plaza Hotel, and perhaps our first indicator that this is maybe a sham) was joined by her uncle Laurent Faux and friend Elodie who maintain that high tea and finger foods quickly turned grim after Laurent discovered the baby rat (there are pictures because nothing is sacred). The New York Postreports NYPD and an ambulance were called, at which point restaurant management claimed the specimen was nothing more than a cranberry. But here's where it gets weird.

Their tea abandoned, the family were taken in an ambulance to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where, according to a discharge form shared by Laurent, a doctor wrote, “The remnant you brought looks like the top half of a baby rodent.”

The Post adds that security footage shows a few moments when Laurent allegedly "discovered" the rat, at which point he hands his plate to Eloise and she promptly ducks it under the table for...what exactly? A spokesperson for the Palm Court told the Post, "This situation has been thoroughly investigated, and it is unequivocally a meritless claim."

Something about all of this seems a little fishy, no? But then again this is New York, where everything is awful and rats rule everything around us.
