North Carolina Town Says Nah to Solar Panels Because They "Suck Up" All the Sun's Energy, Isn't Joking

Science is hard.

Science is hard. Just ask the ill-advised though undeniably passionate folks of Woodland, North Carolina who recently halted the construction of a solar farm for some very interesting reasons. The Woodland Town Council voted to reject a rezoning application earlier this month that would have allowed the farm to be built, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald reports. For the proverbial icing on this bitter cake, officials also initiated a temporary ban on all solar developments.

Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, was quoted by the publication as saying she believes the solar panels would interfere with the process of photosynthesis. "I want to know what’s going to happen," she said. "I want information. Enough is enough. I don’t see the profit for the town." Interesting.

Another local resident, Bobby Mann, told the council he was convinced that the construction of this solar farm would "suck up all the energy" from the sun and negatively impact local businesses. Also very interesting.

Even more interesting, however, is the fact that the council had previously ruled in favor of three other solar panel farms that haven’t been completed, according to Mashable. Locals armed with the opposite of facts, it seems, have successfully halted the whole operation. Strata Solar Company somehow managed to not erupt into a Frasier-esque intellectual takedown, only chiming in with some succinct facts. "The panels don’t draw additional sunlight," Brent Niemann somehow said without sighing violently. "This is a tried and true technology."

Take your time, Woodland. The rest of the world is waiting on you.
