As HBO continues to turn out excellent programming (Game of Thrones, The Leftovers, Sillicon Valley) the network looks to get another "W" with its miniseries American Lion (written by Narcos creators) on U.S. president Andrew Jackson. Sean Penn, officially declared to put the "W" in washed, will be starring as Jackson,according to the Wrap.

Penn gets to dust off his politician shoes having already played Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician to be elected in California, in Milk, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. HBO's six-hour seriesAmerican Lion, written by Narcos' Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, is based on Jon Meacham's biography American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House. The series will cover Jackson's early childhood when he tragically lost his mother until his presidency beginning in 1828. HBO's looking for lightning to strike twice as its Paul-Giamatti led mini-series John Adams won the the network a record breaking 13 Emmy's.
