The promising vibes surrounding FOX's previously announced Jack Bauer-less 24 reboot continue with Variety's confirmation that Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) will lead the new series, marking another in a series of huge roles for the 27-year-old actor. Hawkins, though the Academy Awards failed to acknowledge it, was an absolute revelation as Dr. Dre in F. Gary Gray's widely praised Straight Outta Compton before sliding into The Walking Dead's sixth season as Heath.

24: Legacy will see Hawkins star as former Army Ranger Eric Carter, Variety reports. Though Carter has made a quiet life for himself in Virginia with his wife Nicole (a reportedly vacant role), the life he left behind once again comes knocking at his door, presumably prompting some very 24-esque action sequences. As previously reported, Legacy will follow the same clock-centered format of its predecessor but will (at least for now) not include or otherwise mention Jack Bauer.

Hawkins will next be seen on the slightly larger screen in Jordan Charles Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island, a King Kong reboot also starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is slated for a March 2017 release and will serve as the second entry in what producers are hoping becomes a full-blown cinematic monster universe.
