'Terminator Genisys' Sequel Terminated From Release Schedule

'Terminator Genisys' sequel dropped from studio's release schedule.

Instead of being a new beginning for the Terminator franchise, this summer's reboot Terminator Genisys has possibly led it to its end. One of our own writers predicted the grim future of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led classic film franchise writing, "'Terminator' Franchise Might Have Self-Terminated With 'Genisys.'" The studio behind Genisys revealed today it had taken Genisys' planned sequel out of its release calendar

Genisys was supposed to be the start of a brand new trilogy which was to be continued with Terminator 2 May 19, 2017. Paramount has decided to premiere the Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron starring Baywatch film on that date instead (just in time for the beginning of the summer movie season.) It's going to be huge, like The Rock. The third Terminator film from the new franchise was expected to premiere in one year after the second in 2018.

In case you missed it, Terminator Genisys, starring "Mother of Dragons" Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, premiered to a terrible $28.7 million. It reportedly cost $175 million to make. Terminator Genisys didn't stand a chance going up against 2015 heavy hitters Jurassic World and Inside Out over the July 4th weekend. The fate of the franchise hangs in the balance as Paramount has yet to announce a new date for the Genisys sequel. If only the Terminator could travel back in time to save the franchise.
