Over the weekend, fans rushed to the theaters to see the Merc with a Mouth finally realized on the big screen after test footage leaked online back in August 2014. Deadpool raked in a record $130 million, making it the highest grossing opening for an R-rated film ever. But with great success comes the insider theories as to why it did so well at the box office.

One of those executives toldDeadline that the reason for such prosperity had to do with the film’s "self-deprecating tone that’s riotous." They went on to say that had never been done before, adding. "It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously, can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves."

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took issue with the realization, saying, "This quote has to have been said by the dumbest f***ing Hollywood exec in the history of dumb fucking Hollywood execs." He also had a problem with the way airing his grievances in a passionate Facebook rant. See the full post below:

However, Gunn isn’t holding a grudge. He tweeted the website, "I still love you though." He's also busy in Atlanta filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is expected to arrive in theaters in 2017.
