Charlize Theron, the force of life behind the best movie of 2015, is speaking out on allegations she totally ghosted former partner Sean Penn. Theron denies that any such ghosting occurred during what the Mad Max: Fury Road star describes as an amicable split, breaking down the ridiculousness of rumors in a new interview with WSJ magazine.

"There is a need to sensationalize things," Theron said in the interview, as quoted by E! News. "When you leave a relationship there has to be some fucking crazy story or some crazy drama. And the fucking ghosting thing, like literally, I still don't even know what it is. It's just its own beast." According to Theron, she and Penn were simply in a relationship that "didn't work anymore" and mutually decided to end it.

The two split in June of last year after dating for a year and a half, shortly after rumors of a possible engagement started permeating headlines. However, according to Theron, no such seriousness ever became reality: "We were very, very new in a relationship." Of course, Penn has been hitting the headlines with a noticeable frequency for some very different reasons in recent months: El Chapo.

Though Theron may not utilize the ghosting method, that hasn't stopped plenty of other people from regularly engaging with its benefits. As noted in a recent PlentyOfFish survey, tons of people revealed they had been on the receiving end of someone's ghosting. Cold? Maybe. Surprisingly efficient? Duh.
