Daisy Ridley May Become the New Lara Croft in 'Tomb Raider' Reboot

Angelina Jolie, of course, kicked a lot of proverbial a** as Lara Croft back in the early 2000s.

With one iconic role in one massive franchise already to her name, Daisy Ridley may soon have to make room for another. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens star is reportedly being strongly considered to inherit the throne of one Lara Croft, Deadline reports. This fresh Tomb Raider adaptation, which has been in development for what feels like eons, is being built as a collab between MGM and Warner Bros.

Though you certainly need no reminder, Angelina Jolie delivered some of her most memorable action movie work in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life back in the early 2000s. Both films proved to be massive box office successes, with the 2001 original standing as the biggest moneymaker of all time (among video game adaptations) until Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time stole that honor in 2010.

Though the current hype around Ridley becoming the new Lara Croft is based mostly on "conversations" that Deadline confirms have indeed taken place, this casting decision would be a huge coup for the studios and the 23-year-old actor alike. The filmmakers behind this reboot are reportedly taking some "creative guidance" from the 2013 revival of the Tomb Raider video game series, meaning the film could very well center around Croft as a young student of archeology.

Of course, the next time we'll see Daisy Ridley is in next year's Star Wars: Episode VIII. Production kicked off in February, following Disney's confirmation that Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro had joined the cast. "[We're] just starting work on Star Wars VIII, the next film, so I'm back to keeping secrets again," star John Boyega told Vogue in January. "It's great. Much darker, but we're very excited."
