Disney's Search for a Young Han Solo Is Reportedly Down to Just Three Warring Stars

Meanwhile the real Han Solo will be quite busy doing Indiana Jones stuff.

Disney’s long and tedious search for a new Han Solo is nearing its last days, with the alleged final shortlist of possible actors making its way into the hands of the Hollywood Reporter. Three potential Han Solos were in London last weekend for "tests," though no one has any clue if these "tests" were of the costume or screen variety. The latest trio of actors being mentioned in the same sentence as the classic Star Wars character have been pulled from that previously reported group of possible spin-off stars, a.k.a. the not-quite-as-short list.

Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) reportedly remain in the race to instant household name status. Given the hype surrounding this Han Solo spin-off, Disney and the untitled project’s directors have been taking the task of finding just the right young Harrison Ford-esque actor quite seriously.

More than 2,500 different actors have auditioned for the role, either through an in-person meeting or a traditional taped audition, meaning the final three’s status as the final three is a pretty cool brag on its own. Aaron Paul, though previously rumored to be in consideration for the role, sadly hasn't been mentioned in the conversation surrounding the Han spin-off in quite some time.

As previously reported, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The LEGO Movie) will be helming the film and are presumably stoked to be gifting everyone with Chewbacca’s origin story. Disney chief Bob Iger confirmed Chewie’s appearance in the spin-off earlier this month, according to the Wrap. When discussing the studio’s future Star Wars plans, Iger described the untitled film as "an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie."
