Jonah Hill is about to add another hyphen to his already heavily hyphenated career: director. The accomplished actor-writer, who once successfully got Russell Brand to the Greek despite many hilarious obstacles, is now set to direct Mid-90s from his own script. Scott Rudin and Eli Bush (Steve Jobs, Top Five) are also aboard the project as producers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Though details on the project remain relatively scarce, Variety says the story centers on a group of skateboard-savvy friends in mid-1990s Los Angeles as they make their way through the ridiculousness of human existence. Hill, much to the disappointment of everyone hoping for a triple-threat project, is not expected to star.
Mid-90s is the latest score for the Superbad legend, whose forthcoming schedule is already stacked with a few apparent slam dunks. Netflix just picked upCary Fukunaga's new series Maniac, co-starring Hill and Emma Stone. Maniac, described as a dark psych ward comedy, landed a 10-episode straight-to-series order last week. Shortly after that announcement, the first trailer for Hill's upcoming gun-running romp with Miles Teller dropped:
