AMC Wisely Backs Down on Obviously Terrible Idea of Texting During Movies

Crisis (mostly) averted.

When AMC Theatres boss Adam Aron floated the idea of allowing texting in designated movie theaters earlier this week in an attempt to attract younger viewers, the response was pretty tepid. Texting during movies? Encouraging the very act that is, perhaps, the most annoying thing to witness when you're really trying to immerse yourself in the cinematic experience? Horrendous idea. Thankfully, AMC heard us all loud and clear and is totally backing down.

"During the past few days, you may have heard media reports about another idea AMC Theatres was considering, testing whether movie goers might want texting allowed in a small selection of our theaters," Aron said in a statement released Friday morning. "Unlike the many AMC advancements that you have applauded, we have heard loud and clear that this is a concept our audience does not want." The shorter version of all that? No texting during movies, you anti-art anarchists.

While we can all now breathe a gigantic sigh of relief with the knowledge that the in-theater movie experience won't be totally ruined forever, some have raised additional concerns. Namely, there is now some debate as to the usage of walkie-talkies. This is a totally real inquiry and not facetious at all, we can assume:

Thanks for actually listening, AMC.
