Though the recent Oscar winner may not have had the chance to properly throw down during the harrowing experience of shooting The Revenant, a fresh report from the Hollywood Reporter alleges that the Wolf era of his career was certainly not lacking in the turn-up department.
"It was pure debauchery," an unnamed source told THR of DiCaprio's 38th birthday spectacular. "The Red Granite guys were having a competition on who could spend the most money on champagne service." DiCaprio turned 41 last year, meaning this alleged throwdown would have taken place shortly before Wolf fever hit us all. Red Granite Pictures, as revealed in a recent Wall Street Journal report, is described as a "dubious" production company with Malaysia-backed funds. One notable film in their repertoire? The Wolf of Wall Street.
According toTHR's source, the Red Granite team blew more than a million bucks on "bottles that were brought out by scantily clad women." The sparklers on each magnum alone, claims the seemingly enthusiastic source, set the crew back a hefty 25 grand. For a generous birthday gift, DiCaprio was reportedly given Marlon Brando's actual 1955 Best Actor Oscar, worth an estimated $600,000. Red Granite, of course, denies all of this.
